Our trip to Marquette County Wisconsin was filled with relaxation, fishing, and of course eating.  If you have never heard of Marquette County it is smack dab in the middle of Wisconsin and houses so many different opportunities for the outdoor adventurist.  Here are just a few of the lakes and rivers we hit,

Lakes and Rivers

Fox River- spinnerbaits, frogs, chatterbaits, and tubes pulled all our fish that day.  Fish were relating to wood with deep water close by.

Montello Lake- unfortunately the weather was not very cooperative to be able to fish Montello like we would like to have.  It had tons of areas with great vegetation that if an angler were to pick apart I have no doubt they would pull some large fish.  We were still able to pull a few bass on spinnerbaits and frog.

Kilby Lake-  This is the absolute perfect lake for anyone to catch basically anything.  We were targeting bass and northern that afternoon but were also able to pull some decent gills and crappies.  This is a no-wake lake only a small ways from Montello Lake, and with the weather conditions Saturday afternoon (super windy) this small lake was protected enough for us to fish it comfortably.

Tuttle Lake- Gin clear water with great weed beds around the lake makes for a fun challenging lake to fish.  The deep edges of weed beds and docks held 98% of our fish.  Weightless senkos were the ticket to pulling some nice largemouth.  My best advice is to go early morning or late afternoon because this lake had quite a bit of boat traffic.

Marquette County Wisconsin Trout Fishing

Unfortunately with the short amount of time we had in Marquette County we weren’t able to take advantage of the amazing streams that meander through the area.  We were however able to hit Lawrence Creek which is just filled with Brook Trout, at one point I saw close to 30 trout in a pool while fishing this area.  Some of the other great streams in the area are the Mecan, Chaffee, and Wedde.  I definitely have unfinished business and will be back.

Eateries

Anyone that knows me knows that I do not skip meals, in fact I LOVE to eat and try new places.  My top 3 in Marquette County would include

Rendezvous which is located in the heart of Montello, has some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten!  Don’t even get me started on their craft brews…just go visit!

Pioneer Restaurant located in Westfield,  I’ve been coming to this Restaurant for basically as long as I can remember.  This was our “ half-way point” from our home in Illinois to my Aunts in Minocqua.  We’d often stop to stretch out legs and to grab a quick bite.  One things for certain, you will never leave the Pioneer hungry…and according to Trevor we will be going back just for the chocolate chip pancakes.

Drew’s Lake Side Bar-  Drew’s Lakeside bar is a hidden gem in Montello, perfect for a fun night out! 10/10 would recommend their Western Burger and Fish Fry!

Accommodations

I honestly don’t think we could have found a better place to stay than Buffalo Lake Camping Resort.  We stayed in cabin 80 which was a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin with a perfect view of Buffalo Lake.  The owners and Tatum were so accommodating and fun that I honestly felt like I was hanging out with old friends.   Packed full of amenities and things to do, I’d highly recommend checking them out!  When you are there be sure to ask for their world famous Pink Squirrel ( if you are 21 of course).
